Labuan won 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze medals in the just-concluded Sabah State Cadet and Junior Karate Championship which was held in Tenom, Sabah on 2nd - 3rd February 2013.
Labuan Karate Association (LKA) secretary, Bryan Tan said it was a satisfactory result considering the short training stint given to the Labuan karatekas prior to their participation in preparation for the more important up-coming Malaysia Karate Federation (MAKAF) National Cadet n Junior Karate C'ships to be held in Kedah from 1st to 3rd March 2013.
Christina Edris was the toast of the team winning the only gold for Labuan, the individual Kumite(sparring) above 61 kg in the Junior (below 21 Years) category. Caroline Tan also performed well to grab a silver, losing only by a single point in the final of the Individual Kumite -53kg event of the Junior (16-17 Years) category. She also managed to win a bronze in the individual Kata(pattern) event. Another bronze was contributed by Hazimah Jamil in the individual Kumite Junior (below 21 Years) -53kg event.
Labuan team coach, Aswadee Taba led a team of only 5 athletes for this annual State-level Karate tournament. He said he was also happy with the team's performance in the final preparations in anticipation of better results in next month's national tournament.
