SUKMA XV 2012, Pahang

The 15th Malaysia Games (SUKMA) had barely kicked off in Pahang on 6th July and the karate event had already concluded its competition from 1st to 2nd July.
Labuan sent a 5-member team comprising Labuan Karate Association secretary, Bryan Tan as team leader, team coach Aswadee Taba and the 3 SUKMA athletes namely Christina Edris, Syarulniza Abdul Jamil and Nini Erfani Kasman.

Labuan won 1 Silver and 1 Bronze medals contributing to the Federal Territories team in attaining 3rd placing overall in the just-concluded Karate competition held at the Sports Complex, Universiti Malaysia Pahang in Kuantan, Pahang.
The Federal Territories team comprising of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya won 3 Gold, 4 Silver and 4 Bronze medals behind 1st-placed Penang (5G/3B) and Selangor (4G/2S/2B).
Our 3 Labuan athletes made their maiden outing in the kumite (sparring) events although they had participated only in the team kata (form) event at the 14th SUKMA in Malacca in 2010.
Coach Aswadee Taba said these 3 karatekas will definitely compete again in their final outing at the next 16th SUKMA in Perlis to make up for their missing out on "our first SUKMA gold in karate".
"It's now back to the drawing board .... we just missed the gold by a whisker referring to Christina's tiebreaker loss after the score was 0-0 on fulltime."

Athletes from Labuan who represent Federal Territory for SUKMA 2012
